It has been said, “If you sow an idea, you reap an act, sow an act and you reap a habit, sow a habit and you reap a lifestyle, sow a lifestyle and you reap a destiny.” Therefore, our worldview, our belief system, matters; it has consequences. The Bible says, Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. (Gal 6:7). Ultimately our worldview, which is reflected in our actions, determines our destiny – where we will spend eternity.
There are essentially two broad categories of worldviews, which again result in our actions and lifestyle. One is a naturalistic belief system which ignores our Creator God. It is firmly based in evolutionary thinking. The other is abiblical creationist worldview, which is firmly based on the truth of the Word of God and Creation. Secular humanism, Marxism, Postmodernism, and even elements of New Age spiritism are all considered naturalistic and evolutionary worldviews.
Our worldview is played out in many disciplines of life – our epistemology (where we look for our source of truth), our ethics, our social interactions, our economics, even how we view history, our past and our future. Our epistemology is foundational. The creationist looks to the Bible for ultimate and absolute truth. The naturalist can only look to nature and himself. To him all truth is then relative, or he may believe there is no absolute truth at all. Unfortunately, there are many who claim to follow the Bible or to believe in God, but in a practical sense they are naturalists – they put their own ideas, feelings and experiences above the Bible. Naturalists are hard pressed to agree on a moral code because they only look to themselves or some group for morality. They are like Israel at the time of Judges, “Every man did that which was right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25). On the other hand, the person who lives consistently with a biblical Christian worldview has the Ten Commandments and other biblical standards to live by.
In a nutshell, the naturalist finds himself on the slippery slope, or sinking sand of moral relativism. For him, everything is always evolving. He can’t even decide what constitutes a marriage or a family. In contrast, these issues are clear to the biblical creationist since he stands on the solid Rock of God’s Word and its moral absolutes.
Our ultimate destiny is determined by our worldview. The naturalist ignores his Creator God and the accountability he has towards Him. Unless he repents and puts his faith in Christ, he will miss heaven and spend eternity in hell separated from God. The Bible–believing Christian understands that God is the Creator, sustainer, judge and owner of all things. If he acts consistently with this worldview, he will commit his soul to Jesus Christ and submit himself to an omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent God in all things. He then has the joy of having fellowship with his Creator in this life and the next. What is your worldview?
